Past Events
"Writing Successful Library Grants"
Led by Shelley Quezada, Boston area librarians met to learn how to write winning library grant proposals. Shelley Quezada is a consultant for the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, where she manages grant-funded projects to libraries using Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds.
Visit to Mary Baker Eddy Research Library and Mapparium, Christian Science Complex
We toured the Christian Science Complex including the research library archive that contains many resources on Boston city planning. We also toured the Mapparium and learned about its history. The education department gave a presentation about programming and school group tours for elementary and secondary students.
More Than Words Book Store Warehouse
More Than Words, a job training and youth development program that empowers nearly 350 youth, started in Waltham and recently opened a second store in Boston at 242 E. Berkeley St. This wonderful program helps youth to take charge of their lives by engaging them to take charge of the More Than Words business. We visited the company and received a tour given by John Avi Sochi, and arranged by Beverly Eugene-Graham, Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator. Many of us have donated books to More Than Words and were amazed to see how the company operates and how they handle the volume of books that they receive on a daily basis. We highly recommend visiting the E. Berkeley St. bookstore!
"Sharing Best Practices: Ideas for Collaboration with Administrators and Teachers"
Boston area librarians met to discuss resources and strategies that inform leadership and build successful collaborations with teachers. This session focused on sharing best practices.
