Executive Summary

Professional Learning Committee
A call for proposals for the Better Together Conference was put out on the Listserv. The conference will be held on Aug. 25 at Lesley University from 4-7 pm to accommodate any schedule challenges with school start days. There will be an idea gallery with tabletop presentations, similar to Idea Lab at AASL, and Lesley has a vibrant MakerSpace, which participants will get to see.

Look for EdCamp MSLA in September. Announcements for Better Together and EdCamp should be coming out before the end of school.

Path to Becoming School Librarian
The document detailing the Path to Becoming a School Librarian has been completed and will be posted on the MSLA website, linked under Professional Resources. Look for an article written by Carrie Tucker and Jennifer Dimmick about the Paths to Library Licensure in the next issue of Forum.

MSLA Awards
Award winners have been receiving recognition within their school communities, at events like faculty or school committee meetings. These presentations serve to recognize the achievements of librarians, and as an advocacy event to promote the importance of school library programs.

School Librarian Survey
The survey has been sent out to districts, and links have been sent through the MSLA listserv. It is important to collect as much data as possible, so please complete the survey as soon as possible. Rutgers University will analyze the data and share the report with MSLA. The second phase of the study will be qualitative, but the details still need to be finalized.

Summer reading
Discussion around best practice for Summer Reading and what role MSLA should play. The Board will continue to monitor this topic.
